We all do meetings. Way too many of them. But that’s human nature.
It got me to thinking about figures from history. We’ve all seen Hitler lose it in Downfall (or any of the million parodies that have been produced since) when he gets bad news in a meeting. We must assume that meetings have always existed.
Alexander the Great is not known as Alexander the Great Meeting Chairman. But he must have been, he simply isn’t known for it.
Obviously young Alex was incredibly effective at waging war and taking over Europe as that’s what he’s known for these thousands of years later. But as human nature organises meetings we must assume too much of his day was spent watching PowerPoint presentations from his Generals.
What is my point? You’ll never stop the meetings. So just make them as effective as you can. And be brilliant outside the meetings so you’re known for doing something useful (like taking over Europe).
