About

Rick Measham

Rick MeashamI’m Rick Measham, the owner, chief blogger and plugin installer at Geek Herding.

I started this blog as a place to capture what I’m learning as I become better at my craft. There’s tons of other management blogs around (you can find a few of them on the Blogs Worth Reading page) but I wanted something that was uniquely me. And something that focussed on software development.

That doesn’t mean you wont find anything useful on Geek Herding if you’re managing a lemonade factory: people are people are people. All it means is that there will some technical talk on occassions and most, if not all, the annecdotes will be about software development.

My aim is to “keep it real.” I don’t know everything — I’ve only played this game since April 2008. I aim to post about things that didn’t work as well as things that did as well as things that I’m going to try.

Many posts will be about things I’m doing that I read about somewhere else. Credit-where-credit-due is an important mantra to me, so I’ll make sure I credit everything with where I got it. That does two things: It give the due credit, but more importantly it helps you, the reader, to find other sources of knowledge and understanding.

The goal here isn’t to navel gaze and create a blog that’s all about me. The aim is to write about what I’m doing in the hope it helps people reading the blog to become better people-managers, leaders .. or herders.

You can follow my personal blog at Now Here’s a Thought, or you can follow me on Twitter.

Guest Bloggers

At the moment, there are no guest bloggers. The plan is to bring in other people with experience in leading teams of software developers to write guest posts. Is that you? Want to say something? Let me know.
